Description:
This book is not about the actual future - it doesn't seek to compete with meteorologists, stock analysts, pundits, tarot cards, crystal orbs, science fiction novels or some other kind of entity claiming the gift of prophecy. Instead it is an inquiry into the imagined future - our preoccupation with the word "future" - how we think and how we should think about tomorrow and beyond. Leading futurist Magnus Lindkvist builds on the mental tools developed by future-thinkers, sci-fi writers and other predictioneers to construct an engaging guide to long-term thinking. In doing so, Lindkvist also points out the shortcomings and common errors we make when envisioning tomorrow because as the philosopher Friedrich Hegel once said, "To be aware of Limitations is already to be beyond them:" When the Future Begins will inspire better, more constructive future thinking so that you won't have to rely too much on all the future babblers out there.

About the Author:
Magnus Lindkvist challenges our entire way of thinking about and looking towards the future. He is an international trendspotter and author of two other books, Everything We Know is Wrong and The Attack of The Unexpected. He is a graduate of the Stockholm School of Economics and UCLA School of Film, Television and Theatre and has made a career out of fusing the measurability and tangibility of the business world with the imaginative storytelling of Hollywood. He founded his company Pattern Recognition in 2005 to help companies make sense (and money) out of the future. In 2009, he won the coveted "Business Speaker of the Year" award in Sweden. In 2008, he created the world's first academically accredited course in Trendspotting and Future Thinking at the Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship.
